After a week of dancing, singing and competing, the final piece of the Zone 6 Southern Africa championship highlighted why young people across Southern Africa embrace sport as tool for unity and peace. Just like many countries competing at the U20 championship, most athletes come from sport NGOs that have helped to support sports development at the grassroot level.
Zambia’s participation showed how Zambia Streetfootball network members, BUSA and BCSA’s contribution to the men and women’s football teams. Both teams played quality football which has been admired by many spectators, which is very rare in Zambia. The scenes at the stadium showed how people can come together to support young people with the same vigour and passion of support given to senior national teams. This scenes are what makes football development special for Zambia Streetfootball network members. The results also show that the FIFA Football for Hope projects and other football funded development projects are yielding results.
