The need for young people’s sports infrastructure is authenticated and magnified by information that attributes long term value to participants in these programmes. Numerous studies document the direct value of youth participation in sports. There is a direct correlation demonstrating
that developing sports infrastructure has the potential to increasing participation and thereby reducing anti-social behaviors. Furthermore, the economic, social and personal value of investing in sports infrastructure in a positive and constructive manner prevents the social and penal system costs that may later result.
To meet this need, the Zambia Street Football Network members have joined forces to develop sports infrastructure in the communities that we currently implement our development through football project. The Zambia Street Football Network is comprised of the following sports for development organizations:
1. Breakthrough Chiparamba Sports Academy
2. Sport In Action
3. Bauleni United Sports Academy
4. Kalim Sports Council
This idea is develop sports infrastructure in the communities where we have been operating for over 10 years. Zambia currently has only two artificial turfs located very distant from the communities. Access to these facilities requires resources in terms of hiring and travel costs. The majority of development through football projects is implemented in the communities and the state of sports infrastructure is in deplorable state. This prevents increase in participation as boys and girls are prone to serious injuries which might potentially inhibit their participation. As you drive along the streets in the communities, you will often see young people playing in public spaces with no appropriate sports infrastructure.
By building sports infrastructure with artificial turf, the ZSFN will provide an inspiring and motivating environment right in the commun
ities and this will potentially increase participation in sport. Our vision is to provide artificial turfs for both 11 aside, 7 aside and 5 aside pitc
hes. The pitches will also house an office for administration as well as a cafeteria as part of the business development strategy.
By joining forces, the ZSFN provides valuable team and social experiences for the increasing population of young people. Young people will be provided with opportunities to participate in a wide range of team sports on daily basis with the newly developed sports infrastructure.
These experiences provide a source of recreation and simu
ltaneously improve athletic skills, health and fitness as they offer experiences in teamwork, sportsmanship, fair play, cooperation and leadership. Build artificial turfs within the framework of the Zambia Street Football Network members.
